Walk the path of college admissions with confidence, excitement, and possibility.
My Approach
The college application and admission process is not for the faint of heart. I have been through this experience with my own family and I know that it can sometimes feel challenging or confusing. This is also a tremendously exciting and important moment in the life of a young person, and with the right perspective and support it can be an inspiring and even joyful process.
It can sometimes be difficult for families to effectively support their child through the college admission process. The landscape of college admissions has shifted dramatically since many parents and guardians applied to college. Caring adults can often feel ill-equipped to help a young person navigate this new world. And as a parent, I understand that our own hopes and aspirations for our children can sometimes make it challenging to give them both the support and space that they need to explore this major step in their own education and independence.
I love working with young people and their families to help them thrive in this important moment, and would be glad to speak with you about your needs and aspirations for college.
Foundations
I work with only a small number of students each year so that I can offer them my full support. I don’t believe in a cookie-cutter approach to this process and tailor my work to the needs and strengths of my clients.
While many qualified college counselors support only a subset of the college application and admission process, I am committed to a comprehensive approach which supports all aspects of this work including:
Identifying needs and wishes for their education
Understanding the range of options for college
Researching schools
Extensive support with essay writing and editing
Creating an application strategy
Support in submission of application components
Consultation through the decision process
Other needs specific to each young person and family
Timeline and Fees
While I am always happy to meet and advise young people and their families, I typically begin working with clients in the spring of their junior year. Until then, I believe it is important for students to immerse themselves in their high school experience as much as possible. They should learn from their classes, engage in extracurricular activities, spend time with friends and family, help out around the house, and just enjoy being a teenager.
I charge by the hour, and typically spend twenty to thirty hours working with students over the course of the year.
I am available to local Bay Area clients as well as those around the world. If you are local, I like to begin with an initial in-person family meeting and then usually meet with students online for ease and comfort.
