My professional career has been devoted to the empowerment, education, and human development of teens and young adults. For the past 25 years I have worked in a wide variety of secondary and postsecondary educational settings, with a focus on understanding and supporting the individual needs and aspirations of my students.

I am especially interested in working with students with specific challenges and needs, including neurodiverse young people, those who have experienced life challenges that have impacted their schooling, and others who have experienced unique paths through their education.

• High School History Teacher, Advisor, Retreat Leader and all around big fan of teenagers

• Professor of Anthropology and Archaeology at UC Berkeley, Stanford, San Francisco State, and San Jose State universities

• Board member for two nonprofit organizations serving youth

• Parent of a teenager and young adult

• Born and raised in Berkeley, California, where I still live with my wife, sons, dogs and chickens

• I love travel, hiking, camping, kayaking, cooking, history, pottery, reading, sports, board games and sloths.
